I remember it like it was yesterday.

It was 10 years ago, right down to the week, that I was standing in line, waiting to get my first ever driver’s license. I had all the forms filled up, the questionnaire sorted out and the fees paid, and later that day I walked out of there a duly licensed driver. Let me tell you a story.

A week after Typhoon Ketsana (Ondoy), my Dad asked, “Son, why don’t you buy a newer, better car?”

At that point, my car was downstairs, a casualty of the heaviest floods our city has seen, and I was looking to replace her heart… the engine. Transplanting a new motor is a massive undertaking, not to mention an expensive one, and this particular instance is going to rack up a price tag that would cost well over half the residual value of my car. From a logical point of view, it doesn’t make sense to spend that much, especially since I could have just sold her as-is, add the money for the new engine and get a newer, better car…. like my dad said. read more…

That New Car Scent

Do you remember the smell of your car when it was new? I vaguely remember mine, as my truck has clocked in more than 20,000 kilometers already in just a year. Talk about mileage! I recently got reunited with the new car scent in the form of a relatively low-mileage Montero Sport test unit lent to me by the good people at Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, who have been very nice and accommodating hence the number of Mitsubishi topics in my blog lately. read more…

Having been doing a string of successful driving events for their new cars, Mitsubishi once again invited a select group of the motoring media to a driving event for their new 4×2 Montero Sport. Dubbed “The Montero Sport Challenge”, the event was patterned after popular reality show “The Amazing Race”, with a different twist, as we had to arrive at our checkpoints at exactly the given time (no more, no less). read more…
