It was more than a year ago when the all-new MG4 EV was revealed to the public. While we initially thought it was a heavy facelift, it was actually the next-generation model of MG's compact EV.

Featuring a more mature and European-inspired look, the all-new MG4 EV gets a sleek new set of LED headlights, a sportier front bumper with lower & side air intakes, prominent fenders, new two-tone alloy wheels, a more traditional roofline, and distinct LED taillights. If anything, it appears the latest MG4 took inspiration from the MG Cyberster.

Fast forward to the present day, and the all-new MG4 EV could be revealed soon for the Philippine market. The Department of Energy (DOE) recently updated its list of recognized EVs, and the MG4 was there. More importantly, some of its features and specifications were already listed.

Based on the DOE listing, the second-generation MG4 will only be available in one variant called Urban. It will measure 4395mm long, 1842mm wide, and 1551mm tall on a 2750mm wheelbase. It has 382 liters worth of luggage with the rear seats up, but expands up to 1,266 liters with the rear seats folded.

Powering the MG4 Urban is a 42.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, which gives it a range of up to 325 km, based on the WLTP cycle. The battery then powers a single electric motor that drives the front wheels and puts out 163 PS with 250 Nm of torque. It also has selectable drive modes like Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom.

The MG4 EV supports both 6.6 kW AC charging and 82 kW DC charging. MG claims the former can recharge the EV from 20% to 100% in around 7.5 hours, while the latter can recharge it from 20% to 80% in just 35 minutes. It also has regenerative braking to eke out more range while on the go. Last but not least, the MG4 EV supports a 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.

When it comes to amenities, the MG4 EV for the Philippine market will most likely be available with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, leather upholstery, automatic climate control with rear vents, and keyless smart entry.

The 2026 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) is two weeks away, and with MG getting DOE recognition for the MG4 EV, we're curious if the automaker will hold its official debut on June 4. We're hoping our hunch will be right two weeks from now.
