McLaren reveals new Le Mans racer called MCL-HY
McLaren MCL-HY will race in 2027 World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans
McLaren is gunning for overall victory at Le Mans again after three decades, and they’ve finally revealed the car that’s set to take on that challenge.

The sports car manufacturer has revealed the MCL-HY – a prototype endurance racer that will enter the FIA’s hypercar category in 2027. McLaren presented the car wearing the iconic papaya orange test livery inspired by the 1967 McLaren M6A, which was raced by founder Bruce McLaren.
Built to LMDh regulations, the MCL-HY’s chassis was built by Dallara, with the aerodynamic bodywork designed by the collaboration of McLaren’s in-house racing and road car division. It is powered by a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo V6 with a hybrid MGU system developing a maximum of 707 PS, as mandated by the FIA hypercar regulations.

The race car project was also presented alongside a dedicated track car variant called the MCL-HY GTR – a lighter, and more powerful version that does not need to comply with the LMDh regulations. As a result, the hybrid system was removed to save weight, while the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 now develops 730 PS.
The MCL-HY GTR is being offered exclusively to McLaren’s VIP clientele, with deliveries of the customer cars set to begin by the end of 2027.

On the other hand, the hypercar-spec version is set to begin on-track testing this month, with works driver Mikkel Jensen leading the way, with the support of McLaren Driver Development Programme members Grégoire Saucy and Richard Verschoor, as well as Ben Hanley from McLaren’s team partner, United Autosports.
Once the MCL-HY debuts in 2027, McLaren will become the only team in contention to claim the Triple Crown of Motorsport in a single season – the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
