Remember when a fire in Batangas gutted 200 brand new cars, including 25 MG hybrid and electric vehicles? Despite the fiery temperatures essentially damaging the vehicles beyond repair, the damaged HEVs and EVs and their lithium-ion batteries did not combust, underlining the brand's battery technology as safe and secure.

But what of the damaged vehicles? How can they be safely disposed of? Well, MG Motor Philippines has formalized its partnership with En Tsumugi for the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of electric vehicle (EV) units affected by a fire incident that occurred on April 6, 2025.

With this agreement, both organizations are committed to the safe stewardship and responsibility of end-of-life management of EV components, particularly high-voltage (HV) batteries. Unlike regular batteries, these require specialized handling and disposal procedures in compliance with global environmental standards.

Through this initiative, MG Philippines and En Tsumugi ensure that all affected units are processed in a controlled and compliant manner to minimize environmental impact, while adhering to strict safety protocols. The collaboration reflects the shared responsibility of both parties in addressing incidents involving electrified vehicles with transparency and due diligence.

Meanwhile, John Hung, CFO & Marketing Director of En Tsumugi, shared that as vehicles continue to become more high-tech, proper recovery and treatment must evolve as well.
