It was the original Chery QQ was the model that introduced many Filipinos to what Chinese cars have to offer… for better or for worse.

Of course, those first units of the QQ emerged in our market nearly 20 years ago, and to say much has changed with Chery is a massive understatement. Today, Chery has become a powerhouse with multiple brands, from ultra-affordable all the way up to luxury, and with various states of electrification. And now they are set to bring back the QQ... as the Qq.

At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show (AKA: Auto China), Chery has revealed the production version of the all-new Qq. There is no engine. Instead, this is a battery electric vehicle or BEV. Yes, it is coming to the Philippines, and hopefully soon.

The new generation Qq was first previewed at last year’s show in Shanghai, and the new model has definitely evolved in terms of design. It’s more rounded and embraces its inner “cuteness,” perhaps to appeal to younger drivers and female owners. 

The vehicle is a 5-door, and definitely much larger than the model our market has known. The wheelbase is a whopping 2700 millimeters; that’s more similar to a compact sedan than a subcompact hatchback. It also means there is plenty of space for a larger battery pack. 

Speaking of battery packs, the Qq has two distinct variants in China. The first is a variant with a 30 kWh battery that can do 310 kilometers. That variant has 79 PS and 90 Nm of torque. The higher model has a larger 41 kWh battery pack and can do 410 kilometers. The power and torque figures are also higher. 

Where the Qq distinguishes itself, however, is with the interior. The long wheelbase grants a lot of space inside for passengers, especially in the rear seat. There are also plenty of clever spaces all around the cabin for storage, such as the center console, armrest, door pockets, and the like. Chery even implemented a threaded modular accessory mounting system that appears to accept accessories like hooks and magnetic adapters that use 1/4” threaded screws, as you would use on tripods.

There is a slim screen that serves as the instrument cluster for the driver, along with a 15.6” touchscreen and a wireless charger. The screen is equipped with several Chinese domestic market connectivity options for various phones, like Huawei, but also comes with Apple CarPlay. As you may know, Google is blocked in China, so there is no Android Auto. There are ways around that, of course.

UAAGI, the distributor of Chery in the Philippines, is working to bring in the Qq for customers and dealers. They are still busy ironing out details such as local spec, features, and even naming, but what would really be critical is the pricing. They are targeting a price below PHP 1 million and will likely (or hopefully) undercut the smaller BYD Seagull that has become quite popular. It will all come down to how well the negotiations go.
