Remember when BMW Philippines announced they were the official premium mobility partner for the 2026 ASEAN Summit? Well, SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. has just revealed one of the vehicles that's reserved for the visiting Heads of State.

This is the BMW 760i Protection, and from its namesake, it's a factory-armored luxury sedan that's specifically designed to protect occupants from ballistics and from explosives.

Unlike most armored vehicles, which are retrofitted after production, the 760i Protection is built and constructed from the factory floor. It features BMW Protection Core, which sees the entire structure of the sedan built from armored steel.

It has three-dimensionally engineered elements that are made from hot-formed steel alloys that act as a self-supporting cell. Combined with armored doors, a protected underbody, and safety glass all around, the BMW 760i Protection safeguards from all directions. In fact, BMW claims the sedan is VR-9 rated and has glass that can protect occupants against fire from high-caliber rifles that use the 7.62x54 R ammunition, one of the strongest calibers available that's even stronger than the 7.62x51 NATO round.

Beyond its safety glass and body panels, the BMW 760i Protection also offers maximum protection from explosives, such as grenades and other types of ordinance. Should the fuel tank be ruptured or damaged, it has self-sealing technology to allow the 7 Series to keep on going. It also has run-flat tires, which allow the car to speed up to 80 km/h despite a total loss of pressure.

Since it's heavier than a regular 7 Series, BMW also beefed up the suspension to handle the additional weight of armoring. Should attackers go for a chemical attack, the 760i Protection has its own oxygen supply to protect the occupants.

Under the hood, the 760i Protection's beating heart is a 4.4L TwinPower Turbo V8 that cranks out 530 PS with 750 Nm of torque. It is then mated to an xDrive intelligent AWD system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Despite its heavier curb weight, the 760i Protection can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 210 km/h.

The BMW 760i Protection units for the 2026 ASEAN Summit are not for sale, as they are part of BMW's Protection fleet in Germany. However, BMW Philippines is accepting built-to-order units, and the base price begins at PHP 50 million.
