If there's one vehicle from Geely that needs a full model change (besides the Okavango) in the Philippines, it's probably the Emgrand. It has already gathered some years, and while it surprised everyone with its subcompact sedan pricing and compact car dimensions when it was first launched several years ago, it needs a new lease on life now that the Toyota Ativ is now in the country as a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).

Well, Geely might have found its answer with the all-new fifth-generation Emgrand. More importantly, the latest Emgrand is now available with the brand's new i-HEV powertrain. That's right, the electrified powertrain that was first revealed for the Monjaro is also being offered in the all-new Emgrand sedan.

Revealed a few weeks ago at this year's Auto China in Beijing, the Geely Emgrand i-HEV packs a 1.5L turbocharged engine that makes 163 PS and has a claimed thermal efficiency of 48.4%. It is then assisted by a pair of electric motors: one on the crankshaft and the other placed on the wheels. Its total system output was not revealed, although we won't be surprised if it also produces 238 PS just like the Monjaro i-HEV.

And just like the crossover SUV, the Emgrand i-HEV is capable of running on electric mode at speeds of up to 66 km/h, thanks to a small battery pack. Even more impressive is its fuel efficiency after it achieved 2.22 liters per 100 km (or 45km per liter). Geely has reportedly submitted this fuel efficiency figure to the Guinness World Records in a bid to secure the lowest fuel consumption by a mass-produced hybrid vehicle.

Style-wise, the Geely Emgrand i-HEV features an evolutionary redesign that borrows some styling cues from the outgoing model. However, the fifth-generation sedan looks sharper and more dynamic thanks to a more prominent front fascia, a larger waterfall-style grille, and new eye-catching LED lighting signatures. The rear was also given attention and now comes with larger wraparound LED taillights, while a new set of alloy wheels gives the sedan a fresh new look.

Inside, the electrified sedan gets a completely redesigned cabin, with an emphasis on improved ergonomics, as well as larger displays. Sitting front and center is a new 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display that's powered by the brand's Flyme Auto intelligent cockpit system. Then there's the new digital instrument panel that's complemented by a new leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Speaking of leather upholstery, the seats are also covered in the same material and are available in a distinct brown hue. Also worth mentioning are the new crystal-like gear selector and the new aircon vents that get a faux chrome finish. Did we forget to mention it also has an air-cooled 50W wireless charging pad?

Should Geely bring the Emgrand i-HEV to the Philippines together with the electrified Monjaro? Let us know in the comments.
