We've just entered 2024 and BMW distributor SMC Asia Cars Distributors Corp. has already announced they will be launching something this month.

BMW is still tight-lipped about what they will reveal later this month. But based on a teaser image they provided, it looks like it will be an electric vehicle. Upon taking a closer look at the teaser image of the vehicle, they may be launching the BMW i4 in the Philippines. 

While this is good news for buyers who have been planning to get an all-electric sedan from BMW besides the i7, this also comes as a surprise to us. That's because BMW Philippines initially indicated they would not be offering the i4 to the Philippine market, but that may have changed given the good reception towards BMW's EVs: the iX and the iX3. 

Should the BMW i4 be the vehicle they will be launching soon, what can we expect from the all-electric sedan? Well, for starters, the i4 is essentially the zero-emissions version of the 4 Series Gran Coupe. It has the looks and silhouette of a coupe but has the benefit of having four doors.

As for its powertrain, the i4 is available in four distinct variants in other markets. The first two are the eDrive35 and the eDrive40 which both come with a single electric motor driving the rear wheels. The eDrive35 produces 286 PS with 400 Nm of torque and a 70.2 kWh battery pack that gives it a range of up to 490 km based on the WLTC cycle. Meanwhile, the eDrive40 gets 340 PS with 430 Nm of torque and is powered by an 83.9 kWh battery which gives it a range of up to 580 km.

Next are the dual-motor versions dubbed the xDrive40 and the M50. All variants come with an 83.9 kWh battery pack but the M50 serves as the most powerful version that cranks out 544 PS and 795 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the xDrive40 makes 401 PS with 600 Nm of torque. The M50 has an estimated range of up to 510 km while the xDrive40 can travel up to 589 km before needing a recharge.

All BMW i4 variants support Type 2 charging ports including DC fast charging. However, only the eDrive40, xDrive40, and M50 versions come with 200 kW fast charging. Meanwhile, the eDrive35 is only rated up to 180 kW DC fast charging.

With January 19 only a couple of weeks away, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for any new information regarding the soon-to-be-revealed BMW i model.
